2024 Klondike Kate Contest Application

Important Deadlines:

Online (or Paper) application submissions must be received by: Nov 24, 2023.

Music submissions must be postmarked by: Dec 1, 2023.

Please note: Official contestants will be asked to attend an information session in December to be provided additional details and expectations.

By submitting this application, you are indicating you would like to compete for the role of Klondike Kate. Should you complete the application process, the questions you answer may be used in promotional material advertising the upcoming contest.

Contestants may not solicit sponsorship.

Additional information on current sponsorship opportunities will be shared with the winner.

Application Process:

The Klondike Kate Contest has a three-step application process.

The Royal Order of Klondike Kates will accept up to ten applications.

To submit an application in-full, contestants must complete each step.

Step One, fill out the information on this website to submit your application. Please Contact the Kates directly if you would prefer to mail your application through the United States Postal Service (USPS).

Step two, send your music to our musical director. Be sure to review the 2024 Klondike Kate Contest Music Guidelines & Instructions below. (Must be post marked by Dec 1, 2023).

Step three, submit your non-refundable $75.00 application fee by using this link. Checks can be made out to the ROKK and mailed to:

ROKK. PO BOX 211193, Saint Paul, MN 55121.

The fee is to off-set the cost of our accompanist for a one-hour rehearsal and each performance the evening of the pageant in addition to the cost of a mandatory background check.

Music Guidelines & Instructions:

All music must be postmarked NO LATER THAN 12/01/2023.

Please send the following:

Recording of music (Cassette or CD are acceptable)

Acceptable Sheet Music which includes:

Full Score Sheet Music

Lead Sheets (Includes Lyrics and Chords)

Guitar Tab Music (Includes Lyrics, Chords and Guitar Tabs).

Keys songs will be performed in.   ****If you are uncertain of your key, please indicate that on your Application and Sheet Music. Dave will work with you to determine what Key the music needs to be in.

Place your name and phone number on each page of music and mail to the following address: David Swanson, 2174 12th Street, White Bear Lake, MN 55110.

If you are unable to locate sheet music for your song selection, please Contact the Kates directly and we will determine if additional options are available for you. In some cases, scores can be written up at an additional cost to the applicant. A different song choice may be requested of you.

Criteria for Judging

There is a one-hour interview with a panel of judges one week prior to the pageant. This is the largest portion of the overall score. You will likely rehearse for one hour the same day with our music director.

During the contest judges will score each contestant to determine who will enter the next round based on:

Voice Quality / Voice Technique

Costuming

Authenticity of Klondike Kate

Crowd appeal and over-all performance.

REMEMBER:  Klondike Kate was an 1800’s Gold Rush era Saloon Hall singer/entertainer.  Please dress appropriately for the era.
