The Royal Order of Klondike Kates (ROKK) established a Spirit of Kate Award in 2021, to honor Kathleen Rockwell and recognize her charitable spirit in others who are giving back to their communities, in both big and small ways.
The original Klondike Kate, Kathleen Rockwell, was a prolific entertainer in the Yukon during the 1890’s Gold Rush. Kate went on to champion many causes and believed in giving back to her community privately and publicly.
For more than 50 years, the Klondike Kates have performed numerous acts of charity in the community and beyond. In her role as an ambassador for the Legend of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, Klondike Kate makes hundreds of appearances with the Royal Family, Vulcan Krewe, Royal Order of Klondike Kates, and as an individual. At the conclusion of her reigning year, she continues to donate her time, talent and treasure, performing as a Klondike Kate. She will also work behind the scenes with our ROKK 501(c)3 non-profit, fundraise for other non-profit entities, and provide other acts of service.
When a member of the ROKK notices an act of service or kindness that she believes would honor the “Spirit of Kate”, she may bestow this award.
